Nollywood blockbuster drama Phoenix Fury has been officially selected for screening at the 16th annual Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in the United States.

The organisers of the prestigious film event announced the selection via their verified Instagram handle, @svafilmfest.

According to SVAFF, Phoenix Fury is among 92 films representing 35 countries that will be showcased at the festival, scheduled to run from October 9 to 12 in San Jose, California.

Written, directed, and produced by acclaimed filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo, the star-studded production features performances by Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Joseph Momodu, Ama K. Abebrese, and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.

The film follows the story of Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana, only for her life to be disrupted by Yali, Nigeria’s newly elected governor.

Phoenix Fury’s SVAFF selection comes a year after its award-winning debut at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it clinched Best Film and Best Director. It has also secured a nomination at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Lead Actress.

Other Nigerian titles on this year’s SVAFF lineup include Mother’s Love, Osamede, Soft Love, In Her Shoes, and The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí, among others.

Founded by Chike Nwoffiah, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival promotes cross-cultural understanding of Africa and its diaspora through authentic African storytelling. The annual event features film screenings, panel discussions, live performances, fashion showcases, and an African Market.
