Nigeria is set to celebrate its art, culture, tourism, and creative economy at the Saudi International Handicrafts Week, with three leading designers representing the nation on the global stage.
According to officials, the participation aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic growth, job creation, youth empowerment, and cultural diplomacy. The Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy emphasised that the initiative is aimed at opening international opportunities for Nigerian creatives, deepening cultural exchange, and elevating the country’s image worldwide.
Three designers were selected to showcase Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage in innovative ways:
-
Ohiole Lagos, founded by Idowu Ohiole, is redefining African luxury through elegant leatherwork that highlights Nigeria’s craftsmanship.
-
Locheness, created by Lilian Oche, celebrates bold beadwork and handcrafted accessories that merge cultural tradition with modern individuality.
-
Arantiwa Clothing, led by Fatima Hassan, transforms indigenous fabrics such as Adire, Aso Oke, and Ankara into contemporary designs appealing to global audiences.
“These designers will represent Nigeria not only as fashion creators but as cultural ambassadors, telling a story of heritage, identity, and pride,” officials said.
The participation underscores Nigeria’s growing recognition of its creative economy as one of the nation’s most valuable assets, demonstrating how culture and innovation can drive economic growth and international influence.
