The Nigerian Government has inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC) Technical Sub-Committee on Livestock Development, signalling renewed efforts to position the sector as a major driver of economic growth, food security, and national cohesion.
The inauguration took place at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning headquarters in Abuja, where Minister Atiku Bagudu, who chairs the committee, outlined its mandate to harmonise existing policy frameworks and develop a practical roadmap for consideration by the National Economic Council.
The technical sub-committee was established to support the high-level NEC committee led by Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris, recognising the demanding schedules of state governors.
Minister Bagudu stressed that President Bola Tinubu regards livestock development as central to Nigeria’s economic strategy, agricultural productivity, and food security. He highlighted that successful implementation will require collaboration across federal, state, and local governments, with his ministry serving as the coordinating secretariat to ensure alignment and effective execution.
