Nigeria Immigration Service Rejects Claims Of Regional Passport Exclusion

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed as false reports suggesting that certain regions of the country are no longer eligible to obtain passports.

In a statement, the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, clarified that the claims are unfounded and misrepresent the ongoing efforts to modernise passport services across the country.

“NIS has implemented a phased onboarding system to transition passport offices, including those in foreign missions, to a centralised production framework. This initiative, which began in 2024, aims to improve efficiency, security and integrity of passport issuance, not to exclude any citizen,” he said.

Akinlabi added that passport offices in the North East and North Central states Borno, Yobe, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau—have already been integrated into the system, alongside 35 international offices worldwide.

“Migration for the five South East states Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo and five international stations in Europe is ongoing and expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2026,” he noted.

He urged the public to disregard unverified reports and assured that the Service remains committed to fair and efficient passport services nationwide.
