Nigeria and Germany have renewed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following a high-level diplomatic meeting in Abuja.
The session brought together the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett GĂĽnther.
The discussions centred on key areas including diplomacy, economic collaboration, energy development, security partnerships, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed welcomed the German delegation and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to continuous diplomatic engagement. He emphasised the country’s dedication to constructive dialogue and pledged the Ministry’s full support in facilitating coordination to strengthen the partnership.
The German Ambassador, Annett Günther, described the bilateral relationship as robust and steadily progressing. She highlighted the achievements of the Nigeria–Germany Bi-National Commission held in November 2025, calling it a significant milestone that reaffirmed the depth of cooperation between the two nations.

Germany expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s support in multilateral platforms, particularly regarding candidacies to the United Nations Security Council, and reaffirmed its commitment to reforms promoting greater African representation in global decision-making.
Energy cooperation was another focal point, with Germany confirming its readiness to support Nigeria’s modernisation efforts in power transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Both parties also pledged to expand security collaboration through capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing regional stability and addressing shared security challenges.
