The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 25 facilities across four Nigerian states for non-compliance with environmental regulations.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, Assistant Director (Press) at NESREA.

According to Ejiofor, the affected facilities spanning various sectors were located in Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers States, and were sanctioned for multiple environmental infractions.

These violations include failure to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) before commencing operations, neglecting mandatory Environmental Audits, and the absence of functional effluent treatment systems, among others.

Among the facilities shut down are Rugal Pharmaceutical, located at Emene Industrial Layout, Enugu; China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) yard at Owo, Enugu; Hardis and Dromedas in Umunya, Anambra State; and Pinnatech Engi Asphalt Plant in Awkuzu, Anambra State.

NESREA’s Director-General, Professor Innocent Barikor, urged facility operators to comply fully with environmental laws in the course of their operations.

He emphasised that the agency will persist with such enforcement actions to protect the environment and serve as a deterrent to non-compliant businesses.
