The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Ogun II Office, Ota, has sealed off 39 illegal packaged water production sites in the state between February and the present.
The Ogun II State Coordinator, Mr Mawo Benu, disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday in Ota.
Benu revealed that a total of 43 packaged water facilities were inspected during the period, out of which 39 were deemed unsatisfactory due to various breaches of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The affected facilities were subsequently sanctioned by the agency.
According to Benu, the enforcement activities carried out by NAFDAC in recent months clearly demonstrate that there is no refuge for producers of substandard and unregistered regulated products.

“NAFDAC remains committed to cracking down on the operations of illegal producers and non-compliant facilities within its jurisdiction,” he stated.
He called for greater collaboration from the public and relevant stakeholders in the agency’s efforts to rid the country of unsafe and unregistered products.
“The public is urged to report any illegal production sites or suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office, to help safeguard public health,” Benu added.
He further noted that some facilities, though previously registered, had fallen below acceptable hygiene standards during routine inspections, failing to maintain the minimum conditions under which they were licensed.
Identified violations included operating with expired licences, production of unapproved pack sizes, switching operations to unapproved sites, and using counterfeit NAFDAC registration numbers for unregistered products.
