The Embassy of Mexico in Nigeria on Tuesday formally inaugurated the Nigeria–Mexico Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) and its newly appointed Board of Directors, marking a significant step towards deepening economic ties between the two countries.

Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, Mexican Ambassador Alfredo Miranda described the establishment of the NMCC as a milestone in fostering economic, cultural, and strategic collaboration between Mexico and Nigeria.

He highlighted the Chamber’s role as a bridge for business, innovation, and opportunity, connecting two nations bound by rich heritage, resilience, and ambition.

Ambassador Miranda said the NMCC would serve as a catalyst for supporting businesses, facilitating trade and investment, delivering market intelligence, and strengthening mutual understanding.

“This is a defining moment. We must work together to create a new narrative and demonstrate that Nigeria and Mexico are powerhouses in their respective regions.

“Both countries are making significant contributions to their continents. We must build on this by focusing on strategic areas and exploring the capacities of both nations.

“I am confident that in the near future, we will record even greater achievements than what has been accomplished thus far,” he said.

In a goodwill message, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations to fully realise the economic potential of both nations.

Represented by Ambassador Anderson Madubuike, Director of the Ministry’s Economic, Trade and Investment Department, Tuggar said:

“There is immense potential for collaboration between Nigeria and Mexico in contributing to the global economy. The launch of this Chamber is timely and strategic.

“When we speak of globalisation, we must also speak of African countries uniting to claim their rightful place in the international community.”

The Minister of Livestock and Rural Development, Mr Idi Mukhtar, also pledged to attract new investments into agriculture, particularly in red meat production, livestock disease control, and dairy processing.

“Nigeria currently imports no less than $1.5 billion in dairy products annually. We are looking to scale up our red meat industry, increase opportunities, and foster global competitiveness.

“Our ministry is open to investment, and this Chamber offers a valuable platform to engage captains of industry,” he stated.

The President of the Nigeria–Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Arim Pete, described the inauguration as the beginning of a new chapter founded on trust, opportunity, and shared vision.

She emphasised Mexico’s standing in the global economy, noting it is not only a regional leader but also the world’s 12th largest economy, with a GDP of $1.8 trillion.

“Our primary goal is to increase trade with Nigeria,” Pete said. “The global trade environment is changing, and this moment presents an excellent opportunity for both nations. There are vast untapped prospects, and our complementary economies offer a strong platform for innovation and exchange.”

The launch event was attended by Mr Dele Oye, President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), as well as diplomats, business leaders, and representatives of various Nigerian trade chambers.

Founded in 2014, the NMCC is committed to advancing bilateral trade and investment, guiding businesses through regulatory frameworks, and fostering partnerships that generate employment, promote knowledge exchange, and enable technology transfer.
