Labour Party Flags Off Anambra Guber Campaign

The Labour Party (LP) has formally launched its campaign for the 8 November 2025 Anambra State governorship election with the inauguration of the George Moghalu/Ifeoma Okaro Campaign Council.

The ceremony, held at Jesse Hotels & Suites in Awka, attracted a broad cross-section of party stakeholders, supporters, and grassroots mobilisers from across the state’s 21 local government areas.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement that LP’s national leader and former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, popularly known as Okwute ndi Igbo, will deliver the keynote address at the party’s first state rally in Onitsha on Friday, 11 July 2025.

“Our national leader, Mr Peter Obi, will address the people live in Onitsha. His presence underscores the seriousness of our mission and the unity of purpose within the Labour Party,” said Chief George Moghalu, the party’s governorship candidate.

While inaugurating the campaign council, Moghalu thanked God for a peaceful gathering and the steadfast support of party members.

“Thank you for agreeing to serve. Let us remember: to whom much is given, much is expected,” he told council members. “Elections are not won in the state capitals they are won at the polling units. That is where our focus must lie.”

Moghalu also dismissed growing speculation about a merger between the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing such reports as politically motivated and misleading.

“Let me be clear there is no coalition between the LP and ADC regarding this election. Any discussions with the ADC pertain to the 2027 general elections. Our leader, Mr Peter Obi, remains fully committed to the Labour Party and will campaign with us across the state,” he said.

He also criticised the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, describing it as “lame and uninspiring”, and accusing it of underperformance in critical sectors such as security, agriculture, health, and education.

“We are contending with a government that has failed to deliver on the people’s expectations. Even the infrastructure being constructed is substandard,” Moghalu added.

Deputy governorship candidate Mrs Ifeoma Okaro called for unity and commitment among campaign council members. “Let us remain focused and work together. Victory is within reach on 8 November,” she said.

Labour Party State Chairman, Comrade Ugochukwu Emeh, praised Moghalu’s readiness for the task ahead. “Our candidate is both physically and financially prepared for this contest. We are not aiming for second place,” he affirmed.

National Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Clement Ojukwu, urged the team to prioritise grassroots mobilisation. “Be an LP ambassador win your ward. If we win our wards, we win the election,” he charged.

The Director-General of the campaign council, Architect Okey Chukwuogo, expressed confidence in the team’s capacity to secure victory.

“This is more than a campaign it is a movement for real change. Our candidate is credible, experienced, and ready to lead. Together, we will make history in Anambra,” he said.
