The Jigawa State Government, in partnership with Qatar Charity a humanitarian and development NGO based in the Middle East has provided livelihood support equipment to 60 residents as part of efforts to boost economic self-sufficiency across the state.

The handover ceremony took place at the Government House Banquet Hall in Dutse, the state capital, and was presided over by Governor Umar Namadi. The event was attended by the Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Ali Bin Ghanim Al-Hajri, and Sheikh Hamdi Abdou, Country Director of Qatar Charity in Nigeria.

As part of the empowerment initiative, beneficiaries received:

  • 20 passenger tricycles (Keke NAPEP)

  • 20 cargo tricycles

  • 20 multi-purpose grinding machines

These tools are designed to support small-scale businesses and income-generating ventures across the state.

Additionally, Qatar Charity donated 100 emergency tents to the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to enhance the state’s disaster preparedness, especially in response to flooding.

Governor Namadi thanked Qatar Charity for its continued support in Jigawa, referencing the organisation’s earlier intervention in January 2025, which included the launch of a Community Development Centre in Hadejia. That project featured residential units, classrooms, a mosque, and a clean water system.

“These initiatives align with our human capital development agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 1 through 6, which address poverty, health, education, gender equality, clean water, and sanitation,” said Governor Namadi.

In appreciation of Qatar’s support, the Jigawa State Executive Council approved the naming of major infrastructure in Dutse after Qatari leaders:

  • Qatar Street – from Sani Abacha Way to Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass

  • Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Street – stretching from Yalwawa Junction to FUD Madobi Road

  • H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani Mega Tsangaya School – a flagship education project currently under construction.

”This is more than a donation it’s a symbol of partnership rooted in mutual respect and a shared commitment to uplifting lives,” Governor Namadi

stated.

During the visit, the Qatari Ambassador formally inaugurated the newly named roads and inspected the progress of the Mega Tsangaya School.

To further support the beneficiaries, the state government will provide each recipient with a ₦50,000 grant to cover startup costs. Beneficiaries will also sign agreements ensuring the proper use of the equipment, with oversight from Qatar Charity and the Jigawa State Youth Empowerment and Employment Agency.

In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Hajri commended Jigawa State for its strides in education, agriculture, infrastructure, and social development.

“Jigawa is recognized for its effective governance, economic resilience, and security. Your commitment to progress is admirable,” the ambassador said.

The event details were shared in a press statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Hamisu Gumel.
