Israel has announced the reopening of the Allenby Bridge border crossing with Jordan to the passage of goods and humanitarian aid, following weeks of closure after a deadly attack at the site.
The crossing, the only land route connecting the Israeli‑occupied West Bank to Jordan, was closed on 19 September after a Jordanian lorry driver, carrying aid for Gaza, opened fire, killing two Israeli soldiers.
According to the Israeli Airports Authority, the reopening now allows the shipment of commercial goods and relief supplies, following the introduction of enhanced security measures and screening protocols.
Humanitarian agencies and Jordanian authorities welcomed the decision, highlighting that it could ease supply bottlenecks to the West Bank and Gaza, particularly for urgent medical and relief cargo that had been delayed since the closure.
Observers note that the move reflects Israel’s effort to balance humanitarian needs with security concerns. While the restored flow of aid offers short‑term relief for civilians in affected Palestinian territories, long‑term stability will depend on continued cooperation.
