Google has announced that its AI-powered research assistant, NotebookLM, will be launched as a standalone mobile application on 20 May, aligning with the opening day of Google I/O 2025.

Originally introduced as a web-based tool in 2023, NotebookLM is designed to help users synthesise information from a variety of sources, including PDFs, websites, and YouTube videos. The forthcoming mobile version will be available for Android and iOS, with pre-registration now open via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The mobile app will retain all core features of the desktop version, enabling users to create and manage notebooks, upload documents, and generate AI-driven summaries. A standout feature is Audio Overviews, which converts uploaded content into podcast-style audio summaries. This supports offline playback and background listening, offering added convenience for users on the go.

NotebookLM’s interface will include tabs for Recent, Shared, Title, and Downloaded notebooks, along with tools for chatting with the AI, managing sources, and sharing content directly from other apps. Google says this integration will make the app more adaptable to users’ daily workflows.

With the mobile launch, Google aims to broaden access to NotebookLM, positioning it as a useful tool for students, professionals, and researchers who engage with complex materials and need intelligent summarisation and analysis on the move.
