Edo Government Approves N799.8bn Revised Budget for 2025

The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, raising it from the initial N675.220 billion. The adjustment represents an increase of about N125 billion, or 18 percent.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fred Itua, the council’s decision followed an emergency executive meeting presided over by the Governor and Chairman-in-Council, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Emmanuel Okoebor, who spoke on the development, said the review was aimed at strengthening the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

He explained: “Previously, we had a budget of N675 billion, with recurrent expenditure accounting for about 33 percent and capital expenditure 67 percent. The revised budget now allocates about 70 percent to capital expenditure and 30 percent to recurrent expenditure. This demonstrates Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to infrastructural development in Edo State.”

Giving further details, Okoebor said: *“The increment in the budget is about N125 billion, representing roughly 18 percent of the previous budget. Recurrent expenditure increased by about N12 billion, while capital expenditure rose by about N113 billion. This translates to a 25 percent increase in capital expenditure and a 5 percent increase in recurrent expenditure.

“It clearly shows that the government is prioritising infrastructural development to improve the lives of Edo people. We have completed about 254 kilometres of road across the state, with many more projects underway.

“The 5 percent rise in recurrent expenditure was largely due to the increase in minimum wage and the employment of over 1,000 personnel in the Hospital Management Board, which had to be accommodated in the revised budget.

“Overall, the budget has been raised by N125 billion, or 18 percent, with capital expenditure increasing by 25 percent from N450 billion to N563 billion.”

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Paul Ohombamu, added that the revised budget would be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
