President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
A statement from the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Odusote’s appointment takes effect from 10 January 2026 and is for a four-year term. She will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure concludes on 9 January 2026 after eight years at the helm.
Dr Odusote, 54, has over 20 years of experience within the Nigerian Law School, having joined as a lecturer in 2001. She has held senior roles including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of the Lagos Campus.
She earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later completed a Master of Laws degree specialising in company and commercial law, before obtaining a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the UK, focusing on public law and the administration of justice.
Dr Odusote has also gained international experience, serving briefly as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University. Her academic work includes numerous publications in prominent law journals and presentations at major legal education conferences.
In addition to teaching and research, she has contributed to professional legal bodies, serving on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, Dr Odusote will oversee the Nigerian Law School’s academic programmes, administration, and strategic direction, while acting as the primary liaison between the institution and key stakeholders, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
