The President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Uche Agbo, and the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Félix Artieda, have signalled their readiness to partner on a Nigerian–Spanish filmmakers exchange initiative.
The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by Agbo and his delegation to the Spanish Embassy on Tuesday in Abuja.
Both parties expressed optimism that the proposed collaboration would not only foster stronger cultural ties between Nigeria and Spain but also create expanded professional development opportunities for creatives in both countries.
Among the initiatives discussed was the prospect of hosting a Spanish–Nigerian Film Week later this year — a cultural event aimed at celebrating and showcasing the cinematic talents of both nations.

Describing the meeting as “very promising,” Agbo reaffirmed the Guild’s commitment to international partnerships that promote and elevate Nigerian cinema.
“This partnership will nurture shared storytelling, broaden access to training and film festivals, and amplify Nigerian narratives on the global stage,” he said.
Ambassador Artieda warmly welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed Spain’s dedication to advancing cultural diplomacy with Nigeria through film and the arts.
He expressed appreciation to the DGN President and his team for the visit and restated his commitment to working with the Guild to bring the plans to fruition.
The Directors’ Guild of Nigeria is the umbrella organisation representing film directors in Nollywood.
