Damascus Condemns Israeli Drone Strike Near Capital

Damascus has condemned an Israeli drone strike near the Syrian capital that injured civilians, describing the attack as a “blatant” violation of Syria’s sovereignty.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said the drone struck a civilian vehicle near Beit Jinn, west of Damascus, on Saturday. Syrian state television reported that one person was wounded.

Israel said it had targeted a suspected terrorist in southern Syria whose activities posed an immediate threat to Israeli troops.

The Israeli military did not provide further details about the operation.

Syria accused Israel of carrying out repeated attacks on its territory and warned that it would hold Israel responsible for the consequences.

The latest strike follows Israeli air strikes on Syria’s Abu al-Duhur airbase earlier this week, which US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack described as “unnecessary”.

Rising Tensions

Israel continues to maintain military positions in southern Syria and controls territory seized after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

The latest incident has further heightened tensions between Damascus and Tel Aviv as Syria continues to object to Israeli military operations on its territory.
