Lagos APC Confirms New State Leadership Team

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a new State Working Committee for Cross River State following an extensive closed-door stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar, the state capital.

A former member of the National Assembly, Christopher Etta, who represented Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, emerged as the consensus candidate for State Chairman. Etta, an ally of Governor Bassey Otu and a native of Boki Local Government Area, was affirmed alongside Dr Ugana Lukpata as Deputy State Chairman and Mr Patrick Asuquo Okon as State Secretary. Thirty-three other officials were also endorsed as consensus candidates.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Etta thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged to promote unity, peace, transparency and accountability within the party, while seeking the cooperation of members as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.

“We are going to hit the ground running. The inauguration of the ward and local government chapter executives is next, which means our work is already cut out for us.

“We are going to give every member of our party a listening ear because we are ready to serve you and seek your advice as stakeholders to win the 2027 general election,” he said.

Addressing the newly inaugurated committee, Governor Bassey Otu expressed optimism that the executives would exceed expectations. He urged them to operate strictly in line with the party’s constitution.

“To the newly elected chairman, I know you will do well based on your wealth of experience. For those who do not know, the State Working Committee chairman should work closely with the organising secretary,” the governor stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the APC Cross River State Congress Committee, Mr Samuel Yarnap, commended members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the adoption of consensus candidates. He advised the new leadership to uphold fairness, sustain internal harmony and collaborate effectively with ward and local government executives.

“I encourage you to discharge your duties with utmost sincerity, fairness and justice, so as to leave a positive mark in the sands of time,” Yarnap said.
