Andreeva, Chwalinska Storm into French Open Final

The French Open is set to produce a new women’s singles champion after Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva and Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska advanced to the final at Roland Garros.

The early elimination of top contenders, including defending champion Coco Gauff, four-time winner Iga Świątek and world number one Aryna Sabalenka, opened the door for new faces to shine in Paris.

Andreeva, 19, booked her place in the final with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the semi-final. The Russian teenager said reaching a Grand Slam final remained a dream moment in her young career.

In the other semi-final, qualifier Chwalinska continued her impressive run with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Diana Shnaider to secure her place in the championship match. She becomes only the second qualifier in the professional era to reach a Grand Slam final, after Emma Raducanu’s US Open triumph in 2021.

The final will be played at Court Philippe Chatrier, where both players will compete for a maiden Grand Slam title.
