The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) began on Friday, 9 May 2025, with a vibrant Cultural Day celebration held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Lagos. The event marked the start of a four-day series dedicated to celebrating excellence in African film, television, and culture.
Guests were greeted by cultural dancers clad in traditional attire from various Nigerian ethnic groups, performing to the sounds of indigenous music. The evening also showcased a variety of local delicacies such as fura da nono, akara, and nkwobi, underscoring Nigeria’s rich and diverse culinary traditions.
The event was hosted by social media personality Enioluwa Adeoluwa, alongside actors Stan Nze and Bam Bam, with a lively musical performance by Segun Johnson setting the festive mood.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the Best Dressed Awards, which honoured Big Brother Naija alumni Liquorose and Prince Nelson Enwerem for their striking traditional ensembles. Liquorose dazzled in a Yoruba-inspired outfit designed by Prudent Atelier, featuring elaborate beadwork and coral adornments, while Prince Nelson impressed with a regal look that paid tribute to Benin cultural heritage.
The AMVCA Cultural Day set a celebratory tone for the awards weekend, spotlighting African heritage through fashion, food, and artistic expression.
