The Akwa Ibom State Government has opened applications for a three-month skills acquisition programme for youths at seven newly commissioned Youth-Friendly Centres across the state.
The initiative, approved by Gov. Umo Eno, is designed to equip young people with practical, marketable skills to promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment under the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
The Ministry of Youth Development will implement the programme at designated centres in Oron, Ikono, Uruan, Etinan, Nsit Atai, Nsit Ubium and Etim Ekpo, with each centre offering specific skills.

The government said the initiative builds on the first cohort of the Youth Digital Skills Training Programme in Oron, whose graduation ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026.
It said applicants must be not more than 45 years old, originate from and reside in the Local Government Area where their preferred training centre is located, and select a skill offered at the centre that matches their interests.
Applicants must also be available and committed to completing the intensive three-month training.
The government urged eligible youths to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire relevant skills that could improve their self-reliance and participation in economic activities.
Interested applicants are to register through www.employment.akwaibomstate.gov.ng.
The application portal opens on Sept. 28 and closes on Oct. 5, 2026.
The programme forms part of the state government’s broader investment in youth development and human capital, with emphasis on practical skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment under the ARISE Agenda.
