Airtel Africa has partnered with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet services to remote and underserved communities across its 14 African countries. The collaboration aims to bridge the digital divide by offering reliable connectivity in regions that have historically lacked access to broadband infrastructure.

Under the partnership, Starlink’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology will be integrated into Airtel Africa’s existing network, enhancing coverage in rural areas, schools, health centres, and small businesses. With a constellation of thousands of satellites, Starlink delivers low-latency, high-speed internet, providing a viable solution in locations where fibre optic or mobile broadband networks are limited or unavailable.

Sunil Taldar, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa, said: “Next-generation satellite connectivity will ensure that every individual, business, and community can access reliable and affordable voice and data services even in the most remote parts of Africa.”

The deployment of Starlink services is already underway, with operating licences secured in nine Airtel Africa countries. Regulatory approvals are in progress in the remaining five countries, with full-scale rollout expected in the coming months.

The initiative is anticipated to have a transformative impact across key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and e-commerce by enabling remote learning, telemedicine, digital financial services, and improved market access for farmers and entrepreneurs. It also reflects Airtel Africa’s commitment to digital inclusion and economic development across the continent.

This partnership between Airtel Africa and SpaceX marks a major step in extending internet access across Africa, unlocking new opportunities for individuals and businesses in previously disconnected regions.
