Africa Magic has announced the opening of entries for the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), calling on filmmakers and television producers across Africa to submit their work for consideration.
The organisers made the announcement on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), inviting creatives whose films or television projects were released in 2025 to take part in the prestigious awards.
“It’s award season, and the spotlight is calling. If your film or TV project lit up screens in 2025, now is the time to take your place in the conversation,” the post stated, adding that submissions opened on 11 January 2026 and will close on 31 January 2026.
Further details published on the Africa Magic website on 10 January 2026 outlined the scope and eligibility requirements for the awards. According to the organisers, the 12th AMVCA, organised in collaboration with MultiChoice and Canal+, will continue its mission of recognising outstanding achievements in African film and television.
Africa Magic noted that the upcoming edition will expand its Indigenous Language categories to include productions from North and Central Africa, reinforcing its commitment to broader continental representation.
Entries are open to films and television content that were publicly screened or broadcast between 1 January and 31 December 2025. Feature-length films must have been exhibited in cinemas, shown on linear television, or made available on recognised streaming platforms to qualify.
The 12th AMVCA will feature 32 award categories, including 18 juried awards, 11 audience-voted categories, and special honours such as Lifetime Achievement Awards and a Trailblazer Award. New additions include Best Indigenous Language, North Africa and Best Indigenous Language Central Africa.
“These additions reflect the AMVCA’s commitment to Pan-Africanism, cultural preservation, and equitable representation,” the organisers said, stressing the importance of celebrating Africa’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
The awards ceremony, with Don Julio as lead sponsor, is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026. Submissions must be completed online through the official AMVCA portal, with full preview copies uploaded exactly as broadcast or screened.
Organisers added that the 12th edition promises another vibrant celebration of African storytelling, creativity and cultural impact, building on the awards’ reputation for showcasing talent, fashion and iconic red-carpet moments across the continent.
