The Nigerian Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across Nigeria as part of efforts to improve the training and capacity of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The three-week rehabilitation programme is expected to prepare the institutions for the resumption of police training activities.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the 160th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, in Abuja on Thursday.

Aiyedatiwa said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening police training and improving the effectiveness of officers and men of the force.
He said the NEC received a report from its ad hoc committee on the rehabilitation of police training institutions, which confirmed that measures were already underway to upgrade the facilities.
According to him, contracts had been awarded for the rehabilitation of 13 institutions across the country, with 80% of the contractors already receiving their award letters.
Enugu State Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai said additional funding would be released to the contractors to enable them to commence and complete the projects.
Ossai said the Ministry of Finance had committed to releasing the outstanding funds by the following week.
He urged the contractors to deliver the projects promptly in line with the terms of their contracts.
The deputy governor also stressed the importance of sustained police training and called on Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information and cooperating with personnel to improve security across the country.
