The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has declared candidates of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) winners of the chairmanship elections in all 13 local government areas of the state.
The commission described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, saying voting began at 8 a.m. and was completed in most polling units without significant security incidents.
Announcing the results in Abakaliki, the state capital, EBSIEC Chairman Patrick Enyi said the commission deployed trained ad hoc personnel, security operatives and election materials to polling units and wards across the state.
Enyi said results from the various local government areas were collated and verified before being formally received from returning officers and announced in line with the provisions of the state electoral law.
Reacting to the outcome, Ebonyi APC Chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha said the party’s victory did not come as a surprise, citing its extensive campaign across the state.

He described the local government election as an important test ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the party had reached voters at the state, ward and polling-unit levels.
Okoro-Emegha expressed confidence that the APC would maintain its political dominance in Ebonyi and rejected claims by some opposition parties that they were unaware of the election.
He said political parties seeking elective positions should prepare adequately, campaign and engage voters rather than expect authorities to remind them when elections are due.
The APC chairman also urged the newly elected chairmen and councillors to regard their victory as a mandate to serve the people, stressing the need to implement the party’s manifesto and deliver effective governance.
Among those declared winners were Osborne Umahi, son of Works Minister David Umahi, who won the chairmanship election in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Other winners include Peace Agwu in Ishielu, Chinedu Mkpuma in Ezza South, Chidi Nwode in Ikwo, Friday Nwuhuo in Ezza North, Paul Ituma in Ohaukwu, Timothy Nwachi in Afikpo and Ikechukwu Ogbofia in Onicha.
Michael Anyim won in Ivo, Simeon Onuoha in Edda, Helen Aduga in Izzi, Chidiebere Alo in Abakaliki, while Chibueze Odigwe emerged chairman-elect of Ebonyi Local Government Area.
