Nigeria has restated its support for a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question, reaffirming its commitment to coexistence and a two-state solution as the most viable path to lasting peace.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made the position known during a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, Muhannad Alhammouri, in Abuja.
At the meeting, both diplomats explored options for achieving sustainable peace, with Nigeria maintaining that the creation of two sovereign states remains central to resolving the protracted Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasised that Nigeria would continue to support the independence of Palestine, describing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination as non-negotiable.
She also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in the region, noting its severe impact on civilians, particularly women and children.
According to her, Nigeria, in collaboration with the international community, remains committed to pursuing a durable and inclusive solution to the crisis.
In his remarks, Ambassador Alhammouri commended Nigeria for its consistent diplomatic backing and warm reception.
He highlighted the scale of displacement in Gaza, stating that more than two million people have been affected by the crisis.
Despite the ongoing challenges, he reaffirmed Palestine’s commitment to peaceful coexistence with Israel.
The meeting further reinforced Nigeria’s role in advocating peace, stability and justice in the Middle East.
