President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to maintain its commitment to informing, educating, and uniting Nigerians, as he felicitated with the station’s management and staff on its 75th anniversary.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his congratulations to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the FRCN management team, and other affiliated agencies on the landmark occasion.
President Tinubu highlighted the enduring impact of the FRCN, describing it as a dynamic and influential institution in Nigeria and across Africa. With 47 FM stations and six zonal stations, he noted, the FRCN remains the continent’s largest broadcasting network.
“The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria has for over seven decades provided a vital platform for development communication, connecting leaders, government institutions, and citizens through reliable information, education, and entertainment,” the President said.
He added that the FRCN has preserved Nigeria’s rich history from the colonial era to the post-independence period, maintaining archives that have served as valuable references for policymakers, academics, and students alike.
President Tinubu also praised the station for its role in nurturing broadcasting talent, noting that it has been a training ground and mentorship hub for some of the continent’s finest broadcasters, producers, and sound engineers.
As the FRCN celebrates its 75th year, the President urged the corporation to remain faithful to its mission, in line with its guiding slogan: “Uplifting the People and Uniting the Nation.”
