The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced a new deadline of February 27, 2026, for applications for the 2025/2026 academic session, giving students almost an additional month to finalise their submissions.
The extension, which moves the previous January 31, 2026 deadline, was confirmed in a statement signed by Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, on Thursday.
According to the Fund, the move is intended to ensure that no eligible student misses out on the scheme due to time limitations.

Speaking on the decision, NELFUND Managing Director and CEO, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, said the extension highlights the Fund’s commitment to equitable access to education financing.
“This extension demonstrates our dedication to inclusivity and opportunity. We recognise that some applicants may need extra time to complete their submissions, and this ensures every eligible Nigerian student has a fair chance to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr said.
NELFUND further encouraged students who have not applied, as well as those with incomplete applications, to take advantage of the extended period and submit all required information before the new deadline.
The Fund also assured applicants that updates and relevant information will continue to be shared via official NELFUND channels.
