FRSC, Benue State Collaborate To End Fake Licence Racketeering

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), working with the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has announced plans to carry out a joint patrol exercise aimed at tackling the circulation of fake drivers’ licences and vehicle number plates.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Benue State, Mr Kehinde Dahunsi, disclosed the initiative during a press briefing in Makurdi.

He stressed the importance of a widespread public awareness campaign across media platforms to educate citizens about the risks and legal consequences of using counterfeit licences and plates.

Reflecting on the recent Ember Month Road Safety Operations, dubbed “Operation Zero”, Mr Dahunsi noted the operational challenges encountered during the festive period.

He pointed to factors such as increased traffic due to holiday activities and ongoing road construction projects, especially in Makurdi, as key obstacles.

Despite these difficulties, the Benue Sector Command recorded notable successes through strategic planning, enforcement, traffic management, and cooperation with stakeholders.

Mr Dahunsi said, “The achievements of Operation Zero included a reduction in road traffic crashes, improved compliance with traffic regulations, effective enforcement through mobile court operations, sustained patrols, and engagement with stakeholders.”

He further revealed that data collected from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026, indicated a decline in road traffic accidents, fatalities, and injuries compared to the previous year’s Ember period.

While acknowledging progress, he highlighted ongoing concerns such as speeding and rule violations, particularly around construction zones.

Mr Dahunsi assured that the Corps would maintain enforcement measures, traffic management, rescue services, mobile courts, and public education campaigns even after the festive season.

He expressed appreciation to the Corps Marshal, FRSC management, and officers of the RS4.2 Benue Sector Command for their dedication and commitment to enhancing road safety in the state.
