Lookman Reassures Team Harmony Following On-Field Incident

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has dismissed reports of any disagreement between himself and striker Victor Osimhen, insisting there is no division within the Nigerian squad.

Osimhen, who scored twice in the match, appeared briefly frustrated after Lookman opted not to pass to him, leading to a short moment of tension before the Galatasaray forward was replaced in the 70th minute.

Addressing the issue after the game, the Atalanta player played down the incident, stressing that unity and collective success remain Nigeria’s focus at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Describing Osimhen as a key figure in the team, Lookman said moments of frustration are normal in competitive matches and do not affect the squad’s harmony. He emphasised that his priority is always the team, whether contributing goals or assists.

Lookman added that Osimhen’s determination continues to motivate the squad, noting that the players respect tactical decisions and remain fully focused on upcoming fixtures.

Osimhen has recorded three goals and three assists in the tournament, while Lookman leads Nigeria’s scoring charts with three goals and four assists, highlighting the team’s attacking strength.

Nigeria have maintained a perfect record, winning all four of their matches so far, and will face either DR Congo or Algeria in the quarter-finals.
