Former NBA Champion Rick Fox Enters Bahamian Politics

Former NBA champion Rick Fox announced on Monday that he will run for a seat in the Bahamas’ House of Assembly, Reuters reports, ahead of elections scheduled by October 2026.

On social media, Fox pledged to uphold “transparency, honesty, integrity” and called for “a level of excellence from all of us,” signalling his intention to shift Bahamian politics toward greater national unity.

Born in Canada to a Bahamian father and Canadian mother, Fox played 14 NBA seasons, winning three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Under the Bahamian parliamentary system, Fox must contest one of the country’s 39 constituencies, though he has not yet revealed which one.

Fox, who resides in Los Angeles but maintains a home in the Bahamas, was appointed ambassador‑at‑large for sports in 2022.

Describing his campaign as “bigger than party politics,” Fox said he envisions a Bahamas where every citizen feels “secure, safe, empowered, and proud.”
