The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a downward review of the 2026 Hajj fare following the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Fatima Sanda Usara, the revised fares were reached after extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders and necessary approvals from appropriate authorities.

Under the new arrangement, pilgrims from the Borno/Adamawa Zone (Northeast) will pay ₦7,579,020.96, down from ₦8,118,033.67; those from the Northern Zone (Northwest and North Central) will pay ₦7,696,769.76, compared with ₦8,244,813.67 previously; while pilgrims from the Southern Zone (Southwest, Southeast, and South-South) will pay ₦7,991,141.76, reduced from ₦8,561,013.67.

“The revised fares were computed based on an exchange rate of ₦1,443 per US Dollar. Consequently, intending pilgrims from the respective zones will enjoy reductions of ₦539,013, ₦548,043.91, and ₦569,871.91 respectively,” the statement read.

NAHCON advised intending pilgrims to complete their Hajj fare payments by 5th December 2026 to meet Saudi Arabia’s remittance deadline. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has fixed 21st December as the final date for transferring all funds for the basic services contract, warning that the deadline would not be extended.

The commission also reminded states that the previous slot allocations no longer apply. It said that priority for the 2026 pilgrimage would be given to states that remit their payments early, based on a first-come, first-served system.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Forum of States, Alhaji Idris Almakura, has urged members to hasten the completion of their assignments in Saudi Arabia and return home promptly to mobilise pilgrims and ensure Nigeria meets its quota for the 2026 Hajj.
