Russian Strikes Kill Two, Cut Power in Eastern Ukraine

Russian air and artillery strikes on eastern Ukraine killed at least two people and knocked out power across parts of the Donetsk region overnight, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.

Regional governor Vadym Filashkin said Russian forces launched multiple attacks on residential areas in the Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk districts, damaging homes, power lines, and public infrastructure.

“Two civilians were killed and several others injured as a result of shelling,” Filashkin wrote on the Telegram messaging app, adding that emergency crews were working to restore electricity to affected areas.

Ukraine’s energy ministry confirmed that widespread blackouts had been reported following the strikes, which also disrupted water supply in several towns.

The Ukrainian military said its air defence units destroyed 11 of 16 drones launched overnight by Russian forces, primarily targeting energy and industrial facilities in eastern and central Ukraine.

Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in recent weeks, seeking to cripple power supplies ahead of winter, while Kyiv continues counter-strike operations against Russian positions in occupied territories.
