Kano Recruits 4,315 BESDA Teachers into Permanent Service

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the recruitment of 4,315 former Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) volunteer teachers into permanent and pensionable service, as part of his administration’s ongoing reforms in the education sector.

The governor said the development builds on earlier approvals by his administration, which saw the absorption of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025, all drawn from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme into the state’s workforce.

To further strengthen the system, Yusuf announced the recruitment of an additional 2,616 teachers, alongside the rollout of welfare and monitoring support measures. These include a ₦200 million vehicle loan scheme, the distribution of 444 motorcycles, and 300 computers to enhance school supervision and evaluation.

He also directed the reopening of the Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with an enrolment of 180 pupils, the conversion of a school in Ungogo Local Government Area into a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen across schools in the state.

The governor said the reforms were already delivering results, citing Kano’s recent feat as the best-performing state in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.
