Enyimba Edge Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in NPFL Clash

Enyimba International FC of Aba defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna 1-0 on Sunday in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday two encounter at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.

Joseph Abiodun’s fourth-minute strike sealed victory for the People’s Elephant, sending the home fans into early celebration. Despite creating several chances, both sides were wasteful in front of goal, with Enyimba missing opportunities to extend their lead.

Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma expressed mixed feelings after the match.
“We played well but were not at our best in converting chances. Against free-scoring teams, this could have been costly. The league is just starting, so we must improve in training,” he said.

On his part, Niger Tornadoes coach Majin Mohamed attributed his side’s below-par performance to fatigue.
“This was our second match this season, and the long trips from Ilorin to Minna and then to Aba took a toll on the players. I hope our stadium will soon be ready to host home matches,” he explained.

The result lifted Enyimba to fifth on the league table, while Tornadoes remained in eighth place after two matches.

Meanwhile, in a colourful moment for the Aba fans, Enyimba unveiled some of their newly signed players. The club also introduced prominent businessman, entertainer, and philanthropist Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, to thunderous applause from the crowd.
