The Controller General, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Nwakuche, has restated the Service’s commitment to reforms that would strengthen internal security, improve inmates’ rehabilitation, and enhance staff welfare.

Nwakuche made the pledge at the Performance Review Retreat organised by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, with the theme “From Plans to Results: Strengthening Institutional Performance in the Ministry of Interior.”

In a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, (SPRO), Abubakar Umar on Saturday in Abuja, Nwakuche said that the service was focused on repositioning correctional facilities.

This, he said, would be to meet global best practices, adding that ongoing initiatives were designed to address existing gaps and emerging challenges within the Service.

“Correctional reforms are critical to national development. They provide a balance between security, rehabilitation of offenders, and the well-being of personnel,” he said.

Nwakuche assured that the Service was ready to translate government policies into measurable outcomes.

He also pledged to rebuild public confidence, strengthen professionalism and contribute meaningfully to the country’s internal security architecture.

The retreat, which brought together heads of agencies under the ministry, served as a forum to showcase achievements.

It also evaluate progress and develop stronger strategies for effective service delivery in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
