Sanwo-Olu Clinches South West Governor Award at Progressive Gala Night

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been honoured with the South West Governor of the Year award at the Progressive Digital Media Summit Gala and Awards Night, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Aso Villa, Abuja.

The recognition was presented during the summit’s grand finale on Friday, August 2, 2025, in acknowledgement of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s innovative use of digital tools in governance, citizen engagement, and public communication.

The summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development: The Renewed Hope Agenda,” brought together media professionals, government officials, policymakers, and tech innovators to explore the evolving influence of new media on Nigeria’s political and developmental landscape.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration was singled out for its forward-thinking digital policies, which have significantly enhanced service delivery and civic inclusion in Lagos State. The Lagos State Government’s use of social media platforms, data-driven governance models, and citizen-centric communication strategies were particularly cited by organisers as exemplary within the South West region.

The award was presented by key stakeholders of the Progressive Digital Movement, a network of government-aligned digital media professionals and influencers under the coordination of Mr Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant on Social Media to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Social media platforms lit up shortly after the presentation, with videos and photos showing jubilant supporters celebrating the governor’s win. Notable online platforms such as Lagos Gist, Lagos Junction, and Jubril A. Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos Governor, shared visuals and congratulatory messages, amplifying the achievement across digital spaces.

Although a full list of award recipients was not immediately released by traditional media outlets, other categories at the ceremony included Most Digitally Engaged Governor, Best Government Digital Campaign, and Digital Communicator of the Year, with influencers and public officials from across the country recognised for excellence in new media engagement.

This accolade adds to a growing list of honours for Governor Sanwo-Olu, who has consistently been commended for championing transparency, digital innovation, and youth inclusion in Lagos governance.

The Progressive Digital Media Summit, held over two days from August 1 to 2, is regarded as a strategic platform for rethinking how technology, social media, and data can be deployed to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic processes and national development.
