The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, anticipates thunderstorms with rain on Monday morning over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.
“The remaining parts of the northern region are expected to be sunny with patches of cloud,” it stated.
Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the afternoon or evening over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe states.
Cloudy skies are forecast over the central region during the morning, with chances of thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Niger State.
Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Benue, and Niger states.
The southern region is expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, followed by light rain in parts of Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states in the afternoon or evening.
Tuesday Outlook
On Tuesday, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rains likely over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Jigawa states.
In the afternoon or evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
Morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected in Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa states in the central region, with further rain forecast over Plateau, Niger, the FCT, and Nasarawa later in the day.
The southern region will remain cloudy in the morning, with chances of rain in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
Moderate rain is anticipated in Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states in the afternoon or evening.
Wednesday Outlook
For Wednesday, sunny skies with patches of cloud are expected over the northern region, with prospects of morning thunderstorms and rain in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba states.
Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, and Kebbi states.
The central region will experience cloudy skies in the morning, with moderate rain forecast over the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara states in the afternoon and evening.
In the southern region, there is a chance of morning rain over Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states, while other areas are expected to remain cloudy.
Moderate to heavy rain is predicted over Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states during the afternoon or evening.
Precautionary Advice
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, noting that strong winds may precede rainfall, particularly in areas likely to experience thunderstorms. Residents are urged to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
“Avoid driving during heavy rain. Disconnect electrical appliances and stay away from tall trees to reduce risk from falling branches or broken trees,” the agency said.
“Airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning.”
