Ex-President Jonathan Visits VP Shettima in London

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghana’s former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Both leaders described Buhari as a devoted statesman who served Nigeria with honour, consistently upholding integrity and national unity throughout his public career.

Jonathan praised Buhari’s role in strengthening democratic governance and promoting national stability, noting that his legacy would continue to influence Nigeria’s political future for years to come.

Akufo-Addo highlighted Buhari’s strong pan-African ideals, noting his leadership in promoting regional peace, economic cooperation, and the fight against terrorism across West Africa.

The tributes were delivered during a condolence visit to Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who is currently in London with a presidential delegation.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.

According to the statement, the meeting was deeply emotional, with both former presidents expressing their solidarity with the Nigerian government and its people during this period of national mourning.

Vice President Shettima is in London on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, to accompany President Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.

The presidential delegation includes the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia.

The presidency has assured that all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the late statesman receives a dignified return and a fitting burial.
