Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead the country’s delegation to the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU).
The Executive Council meeting, scheduled for 11–12 February 2026, will bring together foreign ministers from AU member states to discuss pressing continental issues and prepare for the upcoming AU Summit.
Ambassador Tuggar, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is expected to take part in ministerial meetings, high-level dialogues, bilateral discussions, and side events throughout the session.
Nigeria’s engagement reflects its ongoing commitment to African unity, peace and security, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
The minister was received on arrival by Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Berhanu Tsegaye, together with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu, and other mission staff.
The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union is set for 14–15 February 2026.
At the Summit, Nigeria will focus on key priorities, including peace and security, democratic governance, institutional resilience, economic integration, development financing, health security, climate resilience, and the implementation of Agenda 2063.
On the sidelines of the session, Ambassador Tuggar is also expected to hold bilateral talks with African and non-African counterparts to strengthen diplomatic ties and advance shared strategic interests.
Additionally, Nigeria will host and participate in high-level side events, including a Nigerian-led forum on regional partnerships for democracy, highlighting the country’s commitment to democratic norms, institutional strengthening, and public trust across the continent.
