Xi Jinping Describes China as Trustworthy Partner of UN

Chinese President Xi Jinping has described his country as a trustworthy partner of the United Nations (UN).

The Chinese leader made the remark during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the port city of Tianjin.

Xi told Guterres that China is willing to deepen cooperation with the UN and support it in playing a central role in international affairs. He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to jointly shouldering the responsibility of safeguarding world peace while promoting development and prosperity.

Speaking to Guterres, who was in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Xi noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of his country’s victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding.

The Chinese leader stressed that history has shown multilateralism, solidarity, and cooperation to be the right response to global challenges. He called for the restoration of the UN’s authority and vitality under new circumstances, so that it can continue to serve as the main platform for countries to coordinate actions and address shared challenges.

According to Xi, China has provided stability and certainty to the world and will continue to create new opportunities through its development in an era of profound changes unseen in a century.
