President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on eligible voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states to turn out peacefully for Saturday’s elections, urging political stakeholders to reject violence and divisive rhetoric.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President praised residents of the affected areas for their civic awareness and expressed optimism that the elections would reflect the people’s mandate and further strengthen democratic governance.
He directed security agencies to carry out their duties with professionalism and restraint to ensure the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
President Tinubu also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement all necessary measures to reinforce public trust in the polls, including timely accreditation of voters, smooth voting procedures, accurate collation and prompt transmission of results in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026.

Emphasising the importance of orderliness, the President appealed to voters, electoral officials and security personnel to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that democracy flourishes in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance and mutual respect.
He further cautioned political parties, candidates and their supporters against engaging in violence, hate speech or any conduct capable of undermining the electoral process.
The President warned security operatives against acts of intimidation or excessive force, stressing that their constitutional responsibility is to protect lives and property, safeguard voters and uphold the sanctity of the ballot.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to credible elections, Tinubu assured Nigerians of continued support for institutions tasked with delivering free, fair and transparent polls, describing credible elections as vital to consolidating the nation’s democratic progress.
