President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday participated in an extraordinary virtual summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), convened to address the escalating political crisis in Guinea-Bissau.

Joining other West African leaders via Zoom, President Tinubu took part in high-level deliberations focused on safeguarding stability and defending constitutional order following recent upheavals in the country.

The summit, held on 27 November 2025, followed rising concerns over mounting political tension and growing security uncertainties in Guinea-Bissau.

In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government expressed deep concern over the recent military coup in Guinea-Bissau, describing it as an unconstitutional power grab that threatens democratic consolidation and regional stability.

The statement strongly condemned the military intervention, noting that it constitutes a clear breach of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance, which unequivocally forbids any attempt to seize power through unconstitutional means.
