President Tinubu Salutes Babajide Otitoju On 60th Birthday

President Bola Tinubu has honoured Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, a celebrated investigative journalist, on his 60th birthday on 28 March 2026, recognising his outstanding contributions to Nigerian journalism and national development.

In a statement highlighting Otitoju’s career, the President praised his dedication to citizen-focused journalism, integrity, courage, and commitment to speaking truth to power.

“Babajide Otitoju stands out as a journalist of great reckoning and distinction. He speaks truth to power without caring whose ox is gored,” President Tinubu said.

“What is also particularly remarkable about him is his vast journalism experience and knowledge across diverse disciplines, sectors, regions and cultures. He brings to the Journalists Hangout programme on TVC rich and informed perspectives and analysis that one can hardly ignore. His contributions to journalism, particularly the growth and development of TVC, are also worthy of mention.

“I congratulate Otitoju on attaining this milestone age of 60. I commend him for his services to his profession and Nigeria. I wish him many more years and a continued life of impact,” the President added.

A statement by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, traced Otitoju’s career from his early work with The Democrat newspaper in Kaduna to his pioneering role at TheNews Group in 1993, where he served as Kano State correspondent.

“Otitoju has an acute memory, a characteristic of a History graduate from the University of Ilorin. He is also a polemicist and songwriter, and currently serves as Director of News at Television Continental while anchoring the acclaimed current affairs programme Journalists Hangout,” Onanuga said.

The President’s tribute celebrates Otitoju’s remarkable journey in both print and electronic media, highlighting his courage, professionalism, and enduring influence in shaping Nigeria’s journalistic landscape.

Otitoju, a prince of Ekirin Adde in Kogi State, has distinguished himself as a fearless reporter, including covering high-risk stories such as the religiously motivated killing of a Nigerian in Kano, demonstrating unwavering dedication to truth and public service.
