The Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) has developed an inventory system called PLASUPPLY to enhance the efficiency of its operations.
Mr Kim Bot, Executive Secretary (ES) of the agency, made this known in an interview on Monday in Jos.
Bot, who is a pharmacist, said the tool developed locally was used by the agency to conduct a comprehensive inventory of commodities at its central warehouse.
He said PLASUPPLY had enhanced the effective management of raw materials, drugs, and other medical supplies.
According to him, the inventory tool was designed to streamline various processes, such as stock tracking, order placement, and alerting staff when drugs and commodities were approaching their expiry dates.
The PLASUPPLY tool informs us of drugs in the warehouse that will expire within the next six months and where such drugs are needed in our healthcare facilities.
“This system, aside from boosting efficiency, also helps to reduce costs, as we no longer experience cases of expired drugs in the warehouse,” he said.

The Executive Secretary further explained that the agency, which is mandated to ensure the availability and affordability of essential drugs and medical supplies in the state, had signed various memoranda of understanding with both local and international pharmaceutical companies.
He said the agency, in its effort to enhance healthcare outcomes for citizens of the state, had established a Drug Information Centre for tracking adverse drug reactions reported by hospitals and individuals.
Bot also revealed that a toll-free line, 081299924, had been launched to allow the public to report cases of adverse drug reactions.
He called on members of the public experiencing such reactions to call the toll-free number, to enable the agency determine whether the reaction was chemical or related to the individual’s genetic makeup.
