The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced that Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, and surrounding communities will experience a temporary disruption in electricity supply as the agency undertakes a scheduled maintenance exercise at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
In a statement, NISO said the maintenance activity will commence at 05:00 hours on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and is expected to conclude by 18:00 hours on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
The agency explained that the planned shutdown forms part of efforts to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and performance of the generation facility powering the Maiduguri area. It added that the exercise is a routine operational procedure aimed at ensuring long-term stability in electricity supply.
“During the maintenance period, there will be a total outage affecting Maiduguri and neighbouring communities,” NISO said.
“This is due to the combined impact of the ongoing outage on the Gombe–Damaturu–Molai 330kV transmission line, which was recently affected by tower vandalisation, and the temporary shutdown of the MEPP for scheduled servicing.”
NISO assured residents that electricity would be restored immediately after maintenance works are completed and the network stabilised.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause and appeal for the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all electricity consumers within the affected areas,” the statement read.
“Efforts are being made to ensure the timely completion of the maintenance and restoration of normal power supply.”
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to improving the resilience and dependability of the national grid, pledging continued efforts to ensure that communities such as Maiduguri benefit from a sustainable and stable electricity supply.
