Nigeria Congratulates Ghana on 69 Years of Independence

Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to Ghana as the country marks its 69th Independence anniversary under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”In its message, the Nigerian government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Accra and wished the Ghanaian government and people continued peace, democratic progress, and sustainable development.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar conveyed warm greetings to his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Ablakwa, as the nation celebrates its independence from colonial rule on 6 March 1957.

The statement emphasised that Ghana’s independence represented a landmark moment in African history, being the first sub-Saharan country to achieve freedom from colonial domination. It also noted that Ghana’s journey inspired other African nations, including Nigeria, to pursue sovereignty and self-determination.

Minister Tuggar said, “Nigeria and Ghana share a long-standing relationship built on common historical experiences, cultural affinity, and a shared commitment to peace, democracy, and African unity.”

He further explained, “Over the years, our countries have deepened diplomatic and economic cooperation through trade, education, energy, defence, migration management, and cultural exchange. The movement of people between Nigeria and Ghana has also strengthened people-to-people diplomacy and economic connections.”
