Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has presented a supplementary budget proposal of ₦22.1 billion to the Kogi State House of Assembly for approval. This request brings the total 2025 budget to ₦604.5 billion, up from the initially approved ₦582.4 billion.
In a letter addressed to the Assembly and read on the floor of the House by Speaker Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar on Tuesday, Governor Ododo explained that the supplementary budget is aimed at addressing key economic and security challenges facing the state.
He stated that the additional funding is necessitated by the effects of fuel subsidy removal, ongoing infrastructure development, rising inflation, and the need to strengthen public safety.
“This supplementary budget is necessitated by the impact of fuel subsidy removal, ongoing infrastructural activities, nationwide inflation, and the need to ensure the security of lives and property in the state,” the letter read in part.
The Speaker subsequently referred the budget to the House Committee on Appropriation for detailed consideration, with a directive to report back within two weeks.
