Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Yilwatda, Emerges as APC National Chairman

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and a former governorship candidate in Plateau State.has been elected as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎His emergence was formally announced on Thursday during the national executive council (NEC) meeting of the APC at the State House ,Abuja.

‎‎The meeting had in attendance President Bola Tinubu, the Governors Form and top party officials.

His appointment was moved in motion of consensus by the Chairman Progressives Governor’s Forum and Governorof Imo State, Hope Uzodinma and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Prof. Yilwatda was immediately sworn into office and “took an oath of office in accordance with the constitution of the party and in the interest, solidarity wellbeing and prosperity of the party as contained in its manifesto.”

The remaining newly elected party officials, Governor Uzodinma announced will be sworn in by the newly elected party Chairman at the National Secretariat of the party.

Addressing party leaders after his emergence, Yilwatda thanked the President, Party leaders and promised to work together with the APC NEC to move the party to its next phase of growth.

He promised to build ,expand the party and ensure healthy internal democracy that would prevail in the party during his tenure.

“I will trust and look upto the leadership of the party and all of us to fulfil the dreams that Nigerians have in the APC.”

Yilwatda’s emergence comes following the resignation of the former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down last month citing health-related concerns.

The NEC meeting was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and attended by key stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
