The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) has confirmed that a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, was swiftly brought under control.
The Controller General of the LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday night in Lagos.
According to her, the fire was reported at 3:52 p.m., prompting immediate deployment of emergency responders. Fire crews from the Isolo, Ikeja, Bolade and Alausa Headquarters fire stations arrived at the scene by 4:05 p.m.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze originated in the IT Server Room on the third floor of a five-storey building within the E-Wing of the Departure Lounge,” she said.
“The fire also affected the adjoining Radio Communication Room.
“Firefighters, in a coordinated effort with other federal and state emergency agencies, contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the facility.”
Mrs Adeseye confirmed that all 12 personnel present in the Control Tower were safely evacuated. She added that no injuries or trapped individuals were recorded.
She attributed the success of the operation to the prompt response of fire crews and effective collaboration among multiple agencies, which ensured the protection of lives and property.
According to her, the situation is now fully under control, while investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
