The ECOWAS Commission has expressed condolences to the Government and people of Cabo Verde following a fatal road accident at Campanas de Cima on Fogo Island on September 5, 2026, which claimed 25 lives, most of them children and adolescents.
In a statement, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop, conveyed the commission’s deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and all those affected by the tragedy.
The commission also wished those injured in the accident a swift and full recovery.
It expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Cabo Verde during the difficult period, reaffirming its support for the victims, their families and others mourning the loss.
